Much of Canada’s purpose-built rental housing was constructed decades ago and remains critical to housing millions of Canadians today. Rising costs and regulatory pressures make reinvestment more challenging than ever, yet preserving this existing supply is just as essential as building new.
The conversation underscored that modernization and affordability must go hand in hand, and that public policy supporting legacy rental stock will be key to long-term housing stability.
